Ivorian defender Eric Bailly displayed a man of the match performance  during the community shield match on Sunday, August 08, 2016. He ensured that Leicester City’s attacking force were contained throughout the game as well as making brilliant clearances  to the delight of the United fans. Bailly who was playing his first competitive match for United since his transfer from Valencia this summer was regarded as the brightest spot through out the game.

Below are the individual  player ratings.

David de Gea

Could have grabbed a deckchair and sunglasses until Marouane Fellaini assisted Jamie Vardy. Kept dependably whenever called upon. 6

Antonio Valencia

Showed decent intent in the final third but frustrated until he picked out Zlatan Ibrahimovic for his fourth assist in eight days. 6

Eric Bailly

His best performance yet in a United shirt. Shackled Vardy commandingly with pace and power on what was his toughest test yet in red. Man of the match. 8

Daley Blind

Steady alongside Bailly, who was the more physical of the two. His intelligence and quiet leadership helped the Ivory Coast international. 6

Luke Shaw

Another accomplished display from the left-back. His zip down the left was a welcome antidote to the plodding play up until Lingard broke through. 7

Michael Carrick

Prudent yet ponderous, which is hardly a surprise from a 35-year-old. Might have impressed had he been paired with a more suitable partner but was overwhelmed. 4

Marouane Fellaini

Performed with eagerness but was unlikely to effect the game for United from such a deep role and was booed by some United fans after he gifted Vardy an equaliser.

Jesse Lingard

Scored another memorable Wembley goal with a run that illustrated the importance of speed in attack. Utterly unfazed by recent attacking signings and will hope injury is just minor. 7

Anthony Martial

Never really got going against Danny Simpson and is lacking sharpness. Began to show promise midway through second-half but was soon substituted. 6

Wayne Rooney

Spirited, but careless. His first touch is still infamously heavy and Rooney remains a liability in possession. Leicester capitalised on his sloppiness. 5

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Needs more dynamism around him if he is to thrive. Too often isolated yet showed just why United have made him their new figurehead with a fabulous and stooping header. 6

Ander Herrera

Lacked discipline. 5

Juan Mata

Struggled to get involved. 5

Marcos Rojo

Carelessly allowed Ahmed Musa a chance. 5

Marcus Rashford

Energetic on the wing. 6

Morgan Schneiderlin

Came on too late.
